The Introduction to Qualitative Research workshop is focused on how to navigate the stages of research.

Audience: For students yet to, or have only just completed the confirmation of candidature milestone. Students may participate from any faculty, focus is on qualitative research, students doing mixed methods are welcome to attend.

Format: 30 minute introductory lecture, 90 minute interactive discussion.

At the end of this 2 hour workshop, students will:
• Understand how to develop a research question and research design
• Learn how to construct a literature review
• Be aware of ethical considerations
• Examine the role of collecting data and issues of validity
• Consider how to apply research methodologies – where to start
• Develop an understanding of working with theories and data
• Consider the issues around constructing your thesis argument

Students will be given a handout of resources and recommendations of where to go next, and will have the opportunity to ask questions specific to their own research.

The programs will be led by Dr Be Pannell whose academic research centres on improving doctoral scholarship via innovative research practices, pedagogies, and models of supervision. She is currently working on a book on thinking with critical theories in research design and implementation.
