In this seminar we will discuss the issues related to ethical consent and working with vulnerable participants.  We will cover a range of common issues, and discuss challenges and possible resources for ethical practice in research. We will discuss types of possible vulnerability and discuss strategies to protect both participants and researchers.   

According to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research vulnerable participants can include, children and young people, people highly dependent on medical care, people with cognitive impairment, an intellectual disability or a mental illness, people who may be involved in illegal activities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and People in other Countries. 

Aspects such as managing risk, disclosure and informed consent will be covered.
