The session will focus on building awareness of risks and opportunities associated with conducting research using AI.

It is your responsibility as a researcher to get to know the different generative AI tools and how they can be used and misused.  You remain accountable for what you publish and you must be upfront about the use of AI tools in your research, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.

AI tools have limitations - including biases and inaccuracies, and it is important to keep these in mind, and to also be aware of the intellectual property implications, to yourself and others, of uploading content to a third-party platform. Some types of information, such as sensitive patient data, should never be uploaded to commercial external platforms. Scholarly publishers and funding bodies will also have their own requirements and you need to ensure that you are aware of them if you wish to have your research published.

This workshop will explore these issues and give researchers a chance to ask their own questions, as well as learn more about their responsibilities and what constitutes appropriate use of AI tools.
