Excellence in Supervision: Understanding Research Impact for HDR supervisors

This session is designed to equip supervisors with the knowledge they need to support their HDR students in developing skills to maximise the non-academic (societal) impact of their research.
The session will cover:
- An overview of the distinction between academic and non-academic (societal) impact
- An introduction to the RISE framework, outlining the fundamental steps to optimise research impact
- A discussion of the benefits for students in developing skills to generate non-academic impact
- The supervisor’s role in supporting students to develop their skills to generate non-academic impact
- Practical steps for supervisors to support non-academic impact
- Available resources to support supervisors and their students
The session will be delivered by the IHES Research and Impact team- Prof Melinda Craike and Dr Mary Woessner, who have expertise in both the science and practice of knowledge translation and maximising research impact.
