This session is designed to equip supervisors with the knowledge they need to support their HDR students in developing skills to maximise the non-academic (societal) impact of their research.

The session will cover:

  • An overview of the distinction between academic and non-academic (societal) impact
  • An introduction to the RISE framework, outlining the fundamental steps to optimise research impact
  • A discussion of the benefits for students in developing skills to generate non-academic impact
  • The supervisor’s role in supporting students to develop their skills to generate non-academic impact
  • Practical steps for supervisors to support non-academic impact
  • Available resources to support supervisors and their students

The session will be delivered by the IHES Research and Impact team- Prof Melinda Craike and Dr Mary Woessner, who have expertise in both the science and practice of knowledge translation and maximising research impact.
